One definition of the word 'Reiki' is 'a system that has come into being through a moment of enlightenment'. However, during Usui Sensei's lifetime (the founder of Reiki) - this was referred to as 'Usui's System' or 'Te-ate' (pronounced 'tee-ah-tay'), which means 'hand healing' or 'hand application It is a vibrant life force, the free flowing of which produces good health. When the energy level is low or blocked, the immune system is weakened, and there is a higher susceptibility to illness or dis-ease within the body When a Reiki practitioner channels energy through their hands to the recipient, the innate ability of the body to heal itself is kick started, rather like placing jump leads from one car battery to another to get the engine in the other car going. Thus Reiki could be regarded as the Japanese equivalent of spiritual healing The source of illness is generally found in the deep unconscious level, and Reiki is an intelligent energy, working on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, treating both the cause and effect of disease or discomfort, going to exactly where it is needed The first level or degree of Reiki is for everyone who has a desire for personal and spiritual growth, accompanied by a desire to make their own environment and the world at large a more peaceful and loving place to be in. It is also a valuable ‘first aid', literally at your fingertips, for helping friends and family, pets and plants Regular daily practice of energy exercise Hatsu Rei Ho (as taught in Reiki 1) and Self Healing is encouraged after being initiated into First Degree Reiki, for in order to be of help to those around us, it is essential that we do as much as possible to heal and help ourselves |
